Night Lights for Kids Help Keep Monsters Out
I think I can help your child sleep better with the nightlights on this page… (also make sure to check out the 30 minutes of soothing lullabies below)…
Whether your little one won’t sleep with the lights out, is afraid of monsters (usually under their beds!) or just enjoys the soft glow that a night light provides, their room will be made cozier and more soothing with one of these cool night lights for kids.
A soft night light creates a comforting environment, perfect for a night of long and peaceful slumber. It also helps keep your child’s bedroom a familiar space, and allows for safe trips to the bathroom, or to mommy and daddy’s room, when placed on hallways.
* Photo: my own nightlight in my bathroom. My bathroom walls are light blue, with hand-painted clouds (courtesy of the previous tenants, who were artists and hand-painted all bedroom walls, and bathroom walls). I love the way my bedroom is an under-the-sea scene, with fish, turtles, dolphins, whales, and above the sea surface, seagulls, and other birds “flying” on my ceiling!
Tips for a Child’s Good Night’s Sleep
A good night’s sleep is just as important to a child as proper nutrition. Well-rested kids will be happier and more focused during their awake hours.
Here are a few tips to ensure your child gets the best sleep possible:
- Enforce consistent bedtimes and awaking schedules. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on the weekends, helps keep your child’s biological clock balanced.
- Children should not have caffeine for at least 4 hours before sleep. Most sodas contain caffeine, so opt for lemonade or juice blends at dinner time.
- Keep the TV set (and other electronics) out of children’s bedrooms. Children can easily fall into the unhealthy behavior of “needing” the TV on to fall asleep.
- The hour before bed should consist of quiet time. A good way to ensure that is to develop a consistent bedtime wind-down routine. Picking their pajamas, showering, having a light snack, brushing their teeth, laying out the clothes for the next day, bedtime reading are all perfect sleeping cues to ease your child into a quiet mood.
- The bedroom environment should be comfortable, quiet and dark (or lighted by a soft night light if your child prefers it that way). Temperature should be kept at no more than 75°F. A cooler bedroom allows for better sleep.
- Kids should sleep in their own rooms, on their own beds. This habit is part of healthy bedtime boundaries, so make sure it is developed early on. Night lights for kids can help create a comforting space that your child will grow to love!

My Tot Clock
Helping Small Children Sleep Better… So Parents Can Too!My Tot Clock (New & Improved)
What an ingenious idea! My Tot Clock is a clock, a night light, a fun aid to a healthy and stress-free bed time / nap time / wake time routine, and a timer for discipline enforcement (time-outs) and positive reinforcement such as play time timer. This is one of the most raved about night lights for kids!
The functions are color-coded so it is easy for the child to quickly learn what is expected of them. Blue means “nightly-nite”, time to sleep (or nap). Yellow means “sun’s out”, time to wake up (no more waking mommy and daddy before it is a reasonable hour to do so)!. Red means “time-out”, and the timer is activated to keep track of when it is OK to get out of the room. Green means “play time”, and sets a timer to keep track of pleasant activities.
Of course, in addition to night-light, timer and reinforcement tool, the My Tot Clock is also… tada! … a clock! It helps little ones learn to tell time on an analog clock, a skill that may become extinct with all the electronics kids have access to! Except it is fun and useful to know how to tell time looking at big clocks on top of buildings, vintage clocks and at grandma’s house!
